EFFECT OF GRASSROOTS’ DEMOCRACY ON SERVICE DELIVERY IN BOSSO LOCAL GOVERNMENT, NIGER STATE

Local Governments are established to promote grassroots’ democracy through imbibing the general principles of democracy thereby enhancing service delivery which will make the performance of any Local Government visible to the people. The study assessed the effects of grassroots’ democracy (representation and grassroots’ participation) on service delivery in Bosso Local Government between 2015 to 2020. The study used both primary and secondary sources of data. For the primary source, questionnaire and interview were the instruments used. For the secondary source, journals and publications were used. A sample population size of 212 respondents were selected from the total of 450 population size of the study, theory of Democratic participatory school was adopted as theoretical framework for the study. The result of the study revealed that representative leadership has significantly affected service delivery in Bosso Local Government; in the same vein, the study also found that grassroots’participation” has significantly affected service delivery in Bosso Local Government. The study recommended among others the need for efforts to be directed at ensuring that elections continue to be conducted in a free and fair atmosphere in order to boost representative leadership. More ways should be paved for easy mobilization of the general masses at the grassroots on decisions that concern the socio-political and economic development of their environment.
