Challenges and Oppotunities of Women Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Zaria Local Government (LG), Kaduna State Nigeria
Abstract
This article examined the challenges bediveling women NGOs in Zaria Local Government in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Phone interviews were conducted with 113 respondents across thirteen wards in the LG. Results indicates that although most NGOs have their perculiar challenges but the most common challenge to all the NGOs is the shortage of revenue and inability to access external source of funds within and outside the country. This has imposed difficulties to most women NGOs in their efforts to complement government efforts in the provision services to local communities in the LG. The study concludes that despite the numerous challenges facing Women Non-Governmental Organisations in Zaria Local Government, they will continue to contribute significantly to filling the major local development gaps that government failed to fill. The paper recommended more enlightment on how Women NGOs could access other souces of funds within and outside the country.
