Abstract

The increasing incidence of employee turnover especially among recently trained staff in Federal  University of Technology, Minna and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai has  become an issue of concern to the Management of the Universities. This paper sought to examine  the effect of training needs assessment on employee turnover in these universities. The study adopted  survey research method. The population of the study was 2010. The sample size was determined  using Yamani formula and the sample size was 305. A stratified sampling technique was adopted.  Questionnaire was administered, collected and analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and  Chi-squire to test the null hypothesis. The findings established that training needs assessment has a  significant positive effect on employee turnover. The study recommends that training needs  assessment should be conducted by the relevant Departments to actually determine the gap that  exist and required to be bridged by training in order to reduce the incidence of high turnover
