Effects of School Feeding Programme on Pupils Enrolment in Soba and Zaria Local Government Areas of Kaduna State (2015-2021)

Abstract

This study is an assessment of the effect of School Feeding Programme on Pupils Enrolment in Soba  and Zaria Local Government Areas of Kaduna State. The study adapted systems approach  propounded by Easton (1965) as the framework for analysis. Despite the effort of the Kaduna State  Government through introduction of School Feeding Programme with the aim to increase the level  of enrolment of primary school pupils’, but yet a lot of children go to school very hungry every day  and Malnutrition of pupils’ is on the increase. The Methodology for the study adopted Quantitative  method techniques and the population of the study comprise of the following;  Soba LGA 244 Head  Teachers, SBMC 244, PTA 244, Teaching Staff are 1371 in number, FDO 1, Vendors 361 and the  Pupils’ 66,463, amounting to a total population of 68928. Also the populations of Teaching Staff in  Zaria LGA is 2363, Head teachers are 116, the SBMC 116, PTAs 116, FDO 1, Pupils’ 148602 and   Vendors 486 amounting to a total population of 151,800, making a total population of 215,065 for  both Zaria and Soba Local Government Areas of Kaduna State. The sample size for the study is 384  determined by using Krejcie & Morgan’s (1970) table; The Primary sources of data used for this  study has been through the administration of questionnaire, Both Descriptive and Inferential  statistics were used in presenting and analyzing our data. The Hypothesis stated is; that “There is  no significant relationship between School Feeding Programme and pupil’s enrollment in Soba and Zaria Local Government Areas of Kaduna State. Findings from the test of Hypothesis revealed that  Beta Value of 0.660 and P- Value of 0.000 showing that School Feeding Programme has significant  effect on pupils’ enrollment in Soba and Zaria LGAs with a P. value of 0.00 and beta value. The  study recommended that government should put concerted effort to extend the school feeding  programme to all public primary schools cutting across the 23 Local Government Areas in the State.
