Effect of Nurses - Pregnant Women Relations on Ante- Natal Care Service Utilization in Public Health Centres of Katsina Local Government

Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between nurses and pregnant women access to antenatal care  services in public health care centres in Katsina Local Government (KTLG). Global commitment to  reduce maternal health problems through the MDGs and SDGs is part of the realistic efforts to make  the life of pregnant women and children better. However, frequent grievances by pregnant women  attending public health facilities is on the poor attitude of ANC providers undermining the efforts of  government in addressing maternal health challenges. The objective of the paper has been to evaluate  the effect of the relationship between nurses and the pregnant women in ANC in Katsina State. This  research adopted the mixed method research design. Purposive sampling was used to select 152  respondents and data was generated using questionnaire and Key Informant Interview. Data was  analyzed using simple percentages and frequency. Multiple regression was also used to test the  hypotheses. Findings of the study revealed a negative relationship between nurses and pregnant  women accessing antenatal cares services in public health care centres in Katsina State. The paper  recommended a regulation of the behavior of the nurses, the provision of better antenatal care  services as strategies to enhance antenatal care services in Katsina State.
