Assessment of Good Governance and Rural Development in Nigeria

The paper is an assessment of good governance and its implications on rural development. It explains the theory and principles of good governance and uses the principles to analyze good governance situation from Nigeria. The objective of the paper is an analyze good governance, theory and principles and adopts them as indices to assess governance within the rural setting in Nigeria. The paper evaluates good governance and rural development and concludes that there is no evidence of good governance in Nigeria and bad governance is the order of the day. The paper recommends that good governance should be adopted in the Nigerian polity through reforms such as public participation, accountability, control, transparency, economy, efficiency, equity, rule of law and strategic vision.
